Gerry Conway

GERRY CONWAY

Gerard F. Conway dit Gerry (New York, 10 septembre 1952 - 27 avril 2026)  Scénariste américain.

Fan de comics, sa première apparition est un courrier dans "Fantastic Four" #50 de mai 1966, il avait 14 ans ! Trois ans plus tard, il publie sa première histoire professionnelle. C'est un court récit d'horreur paru dans "House of secret" #81 (septembre 1969) chez DC Comics intitulé Aaron Philips' Photo Finish.

Dès lors, il fournit quantité de scénarios pour les revues d'horreur de l'éditeur pendant deux ou trois ans. C'est [[Roy Thomas]] qui le fait venir chez Marvel. Après un essai sur Ka-Zar, il travaille sur divers personnages tels que Iron Man, Daredevil, Hulk, The Inhumans, Black Widow (Veuve Noire), Werewolf by Night, Tomb of Dracula. En 1971, il co-crée Man-Thing (L'Homme-Chose) avec Stan Lee et Roy Thomas.

De 1972 à 1975, il écrit les scénarios de Spider-Man. On lui doit notamment la mort de Gwen Stacy qui a traumatisé des millions de fans. Durant cette période, il imagine le personnage du Punisher qui aura sa propre revue. Parallèlement, en 1973-1974, il s'occupe aussi des Fantastic Four.

En 1975, il retourne chez DC Comics où il signe des épisodes de Swamp-Thing (La Créature du Marais), Hercule Unbound, Tong the Untamed, mais aussi Superman, Batman, Justice League of America ou Metal Men.

En 1976, il retourne brièvement en tant qu'editor chez Marvel. Il apparaît alors chez les deux éditeurs en même temps. Il retourne à nouveau chez DC et écrit pour de multiples séries. En 1978, il co-crée Firestorm.

En 1980, retour chez Marvel où il devient le scénariste régulier de Spectacular Spider-Man et Web of Spider-Man jusqu'en 1990.

Depuis les années 1990, il écrit surtout des scénarios pour les séries TV.

Parallèlement aux comics, il a écrit de nombreux romans de science-fiction qui n'ont pas été traduits en France.
